Designing with Google

Pomme Roi Creative + Google Drive

So, we've been doing a lot of experimentations lately. One questions that has been driving us to find simple and inexpensive ways to create what we want (and our clients want) is this, "What is the message and what is the simplest way to communicate it?" On the workflow and technical level this starts to beg for more questions. "Do I need Photoshop for this project?" "If I can make something in a web browser, is it really professional?" "What do I really need to accomplish with design, and can I do that with free software?" Etc, etc.

Such questions have led us to explore more deeply some platforms that we were already somewhat familiar with - Google Drive is one of them. Drive is like a cloud based office suite, but with loads of collaborative features that I haven't seen in any desktop apps. When we discovered Google Drawings and the ability to move objects, text, and photos around in realtime with another person who was logged in and sharing the file, we were hooked. "Maybe this could be used for client project?" We excitedly asked each other. We gave it a go on a couple low-risk projects and we are really pleased with the results.

We are still experimenting with what these apps can (and can't) do, and we'll keep you posted with updates of our discoveries.
